The children’s museum and the Tennessee Aquarium in downtown are a must-see for most visitor. Just a bit outside the city limit, you will be able to enjoy nature at the Rock City atop Lookout Mountain. Columbia, SC

Another great town right next to Georgia border. With less than 4 hour drive, you will be able to enjoy a weekend at this town with one of the best Children’s museum we have visited. Spring and Summer is a great time to enjoy outdoor activities from hiking/biking along the Three Rivers Greenway to canoeing at Congaree National Park. Spring break might be a tad cold for the beach time but don’t let that stop you from planning a weekend getaway to Destin. Helen, GA

For the shortest distance, you can getaway to the mountain and enjoy hiking in the park. Just skip over the cheesy part in town and you can enjoy a fun day out in the mountain and Unicoi State park. But I personally like the cheesy part in town. It is a fun thing to do to walk around this Bavarian inspired village and check out all the shops. Plan your spring break to Helen with this post to help with information on things to do, places to stay and yummy food to try.

5 Indoor Soft Play Areas Around Atlanta for Kids & Toddlers

Indoor Playground in Atlanta - Northpoint Mall

Finding affordable or free things to do with kids is the main thing in most parents mind. Kids love playgrounds no matter where they go. It’s even better when there is an indoor playground in the mall to help parents get rid of the extra energy to ensure a smooth shopping trip. One of our family favorite things to do on a hot afternoon is heading to the mall. Here are 5 malls that not only will give parents the window shopping craving out of our system but allow the little kids to enjoy the soft play area playground and get their energy out before heading home. The best part is it’s FREE.

5 Indoor Playgrounds or Soft Play Areas in the Mall

1. Northpoint Mall – It’s our playground for most Sunday after church. The play area has soft play structures in the transportation theme ranging from a fire truck, police car and an ambulance. Kids can enjoy hours of afternoon fun while parents can sit and watch them in peace.
Location: North Point Mall, 1000 North Point Circle, Alpharetta, GA  30022

2. Mall of Georgia – Another one of our favorite even though we didn’t go there as often. For the Northern corridor Atlanta metro parents, the Mall of Georgia is like a one stop entertainment center for the whole family. Little kids can enjoy the soft play area tucks in the Northern part of the mall.
Location: Mall of Georgia, 3333 Buford Drive, Buford, GA 30519

3. The Mall at Stonecrest – This mall is built with family with children in mind. Kids play area will provide cool indoor fun for the kids.
Location: The Mall at Stonecrest, 2929 Turner Hill Road, Lithonia, GA 30038

4. Arbor Place Mall – Another mall that has a great play area for family with kids.
Location: Arbor Place Mall, 6700 Douglas Blvd.,Douglasville, GA 30135

5. Town Center at Cobb - This children’s play area in Town Center is a great space for family on a hot or rainy day in Kennesaw area.
Location: Town Center at Cobb, 400 Ernest W Barrett Pkwy, Suite 100, Kennesaw, GA 30144

Tips for Parents:

  • Avoid the weekend or busy hours in the mall. It can be pretty busy and the fun factor might not worth it.
  • Many indoor playgrounds will have height limitation to prevent older kids run over smaller kids. But many parents ignore the rule so watch your little ones!

Do I miss any mall in your area? Please feel free to leave a comment!

Atlanta Things To Do

Review of How the Grinch Stole Christmas The Musical show in Atlanta

How the Grinch Stole Christmas the Musical in Atlanta

I’m pretty sure you have heard the buzz about the family-friendly musical show right now at the Fox Theatre, How the Grinch Stole Christmas: The Musical. Fortunately, we have been invited to attend the media night and our friend, Samantha from RichSingleMomma & AtlantaSingleMom, is here to tell all about her experience with her son.

Review: How the Grinch Stole Christmas and My Heart

Last night my son and I went to see, How the Grinch Stole Christmas musical. I didn’t know what to expect and had a few reservations. I have been watching the cartoon on television since it first aired years ago. It’s a Dr. Seuss classic after all and you can’t get much better than the good Dr.

Freezing Weather on the Way to the Fox Theater

My son and I arrived at the Fox Theatre in downtown Atlanta. It was a very cold night and despite my suggestions, warnings, and coaxing, my son didn’t think he needed to wear his gloves and hat. He found out after walking the one block from the parking lot to the building that the wind respects no one. He wished he had worn his gloves and hat. Fortunately he had a hood on his jacket and pockets to keep his hands warm.

My Son Was Being a Grinch

The Grinch Musical in Atlanta: How the Grinch Stole Christmas show

When I told him what we were going to see he wasn’t very enthusiastic. He’s a guy and guys sometimes don’t like musicals. I decided to let it go and try not to convince him that he’d like the show.

We went to the Will Call window to pick up our tickets. They directed us to the special table for the media where we picked them up and went inside. It was quite a crowd standing in the lobby area because the entry curtains hadn’t opened. We waited a few minutes before they let us in.

Delightful Christmas Music By Organ

We found our seats and waited for the show to begin. Meanwhile, an older gentleman played Christmas carols with great gusto on a large raised organ before the show began. When he finished his last song he got a round of applause while the organ was lowered.

The Grinch was Running Late and People Got Impatient

The show was supposed to start at 8pm, but that time came and went. My son was getting restless and honestly I was too. He complained that it was past eight o’clock and why wasn’t it starting. Around 20 minutes later the show began, but not after the crowd started to get a little loud and began their rhythmic clapping signaling that we had waited long enough.

Glowing Eyes? Wait I Thought This was a Kid’s Musical

The giant wreath went up, the Grinch’s eyes glowed red (to my son’s dismay), and the show started. I have to say from that point on it was pure fun. The Who villagers came out singing and dancing in colorful costumes. The stage was decorated in Who-ville fashion and signature Dr. Seuss style. And the voices?… amazing.

Whew! It is a Musical Narrated by a Talking Dog

How the Grinch Stole Christmas the Musical - Talking Dog

The show was narrated by the Grinch’s faithful dog who took us down memory lane and the story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. There were several musical numbers throughout the show. Some I recognized from the classic cartoon but there were a few new numbers that pulled the story together.

The Grinch is My New Sweetheart

How the Grinch Stole Christmas the Musical Fox Theatre

The Grinch was quite a character. I never thought he would be someone I liked but he really stole my heart. He was very funny, sassy, and interactive. My son got a kick out of his irreverent antics and laughed throughout the show.

Only One Glitch but Worth Seeing Again

I would describe the Grinch as more of a stand-up comedian poking fun at himself and the audience. It certainly made the show amazing and worth watching again. If I had one negative thing to say it would be concerning the voice of the Cindy Lou Who. It grated on my nerves because it was so high pitched, but that is how it was supposed to be I guess. Other than that the show was delightful.
