$5 Ticket to The High Museum this Saturday

twitter_icon

I have been a Twitter user for a few months. And I have talked about how everyone should have Twitter account. Not to post about what you eat today or what song you are listening to (I mean you could if you want to), but it’s a great resource to find a great deal. And yesterday was another one of those days.

I saw a tweet from The High Museum of Art just for twitter users.

“This Saturday – August 8th, you can get $5 ticket to the High Museum from 10:00 am – noon by mentioning ‘$5 Twitter Deal’ at the walk-up ticket. This deal is for this Saturday only and for walk-up ticket only”

High Museum of Atlanta

The High Museum of Art Atlanta with Kids

High Museum of Atlanta

Art Museum with kids? I admitted that I was one of those parents who don’t really think the art museum will be a great outing for any young kids. And now, I have to say I was wrong. From our own experience with a few visits to the High museum of Art Atlanta, my kids had surprised me each time. It might be just this art museum or it might be my misconception.

The High Museum has a lot of great programs catering to the whole family especially family with children. Our recent trip to the High Museum was to check out the China Terracotta Army’s exhibit. It was a big hit for them. They enjoyed the exhibition with their own audio guide (additional fee – which I think worth every single dime). The museum is big enough but not too big to overwhelm them. Plus they always have new exhibits rotating throughout the year.

Outside is also a great place for them to run wild. They enjoy checking out the art sculpture and hanging out from the tree.

Family favorites

- The Greene Family Learning Gallery is a great place for a first stop. Kids can pick up a Discovery Backpack filled with art projects, puzzles, books, games, and easy to follow instructions. It will be a good start to get them explore the museum with this exciting journey. If you are  not up for the exploration with little toddlers, you can just hang out in the gallery as there are plenty of activities to keep them occupied for hours. My kids love the Making a Mark station and learn how to draw from the original art. They have fun with the building station trying to build the tallest building. Little wee ones can enjoy listening to the story or just crawl under the made-your-own fort.

- Family Guided Tour offers a great way to explore the permanent gallery of the museum with your kids. Tours are offered on Saturdays and Sundays and leave from the Greene Family Learning Gallery at 2 p.m.

- Family Audio Tour is another fun way to learn about interesting facts and highlights of the gallery if you can’t attend the family guided tour. Audio tour headsets are available in the Wieland Lobby.

- Family Events are offered throughout the year. Check the High’s calendar for the current events.
