Atlanta Fair 2013 Information and Discount Tickets

Atlanta Fair 2013

Atlanta’s Family-Friendly Fair is Here!

It’s the perfect time of year to visit the Atlanta Fair 2013 and it’s going on right now at Turner Field near downtown Atlanta.

The fair offers all the old favorites like the Fun House, Kiddie Rides, Bear Claws and games to test your skills at balloon popping, coin tossing and clown dunking! Kids under 12 can gain entry for only a dollar; adults are$3. Once inside, you will be temped to play games by the carnival workers who are actually quite respectful and well-groomed compared to the typical “carnie” one might imagine. They will tempt you to try your luck at winning a big prize. And, some games even have a free prize for the younger kids regardless of whether they win or lose.

Pizza, hot dogs, cotton candy and other typical fair food is tempting, too, but make sure you bring cash. Debit and credit cards are accepted at the main ticket counter, but beyond that, you need cash and temporary ATM machines are not always operational inside the fair grounds.

There is just something really fun about seeing the skyscrapers of the Atlanta skyline from an open air seat several stories high. You will likely remember that view as well as peering into the infield of Turner Field the most from your fair experience this year. And, hopefully, you will also remember the smile on your child’s face when you leave because they are happy you shared the experience with them.

A great family night for under $50 in Atlanta, now through the end of March, is the Atlanta Fair. Nightly entertainment on a large sound stage and a larger than traditional assortment of rides for younger children (under 12) make the Atlanta Fair a family suitable event. Parking is available directly across from the main entrance for only $6, if you arrive early.

Family Fun: Tucker Chili Cook off 2013

Tucker Chili Cook off 2013 is this Saturday (March 16, 2013)

Tucker Chili Cook-off event

Looking for something fun to do this weekend in Tucker?  Join the Old Town Tucker Merchants Association and the Local No. 7 Bar and Grill as they host the second annual Tucker Chili Cook-off this Saturday, March 16.  The festivities take place on Main Street in Tucker from 1 – 5 p.m.

For just $5 per entry, you and the kids will be fed and entertained while you visit the many vendor tables and sample your share of chili as prepared by chefs from restaurants all over Atlanta, both professional and home-based.  They will all be competing for your vote for “best,” so be ready to select your favorite and cheer them to victory at the end of the day.  Judges will also be tasting each entry and announcing a winner at the end of the event. Last year’s best overall winner was Barlow’s Tavern, which was recently renovated as part of the Reality Show “Bar Wars.”  Will the new look of Barlow’s help them win for a second year in a row?  Or will a newcomer take the trophy and the bragging rights? We’ll find out on Saturday as there are currently more than 25 chili “teams” signed up for the event this year.

Tucker Chili Cook-off event

There will be live music all day and plenty of water (and other beverages for both adults and kids) to cool you off after sampling the hot, spicy and exotic recipes.  Vendors will line the streets, which will be blocked off for pedestrian traffic only.  Not only will vendors be competing to win best tasting chili awards, but they will also be trying to win for the most original booth design.  Last year’s event also included some arts and crafts tables, face painting for the kids and some wacky contests.  You can also walk along the cobblestone sidewalks and check out the many new stores that have opened in this growing and attractive downtown district.  Tucker has freshened up its look, but still has that Old Town charm.

This year the event will also be raising funds for the DeKalb Rape Crisis Center (DRCC).  So, bring the family out this Saturday and meet some of the great folks in Tucker who also make great chili!  For more information, visit: http://www.tuckerchilicookoff.com/.
