Movie with Kids – Princess and The Frog

princessandthefrog_poster

Over the weekend we had the opportunity to attend the private pre-screening of the newly release Disney movie – Princess and The Frog which hosted by Walmart for Boys and Girls Club of Atlanta.

It was a chilly weekend but I was warmed up by a stream of little princesses of all types walking down the red carpet to enjoy their premiere.

I didn’t know how Miss J would like this movie because a few days before she has announced that she is NO longer a PRINCESS fan.. Any type of princesses.. I guess she feels like she is a bit too old for this foo foo thing! Sigh!

However, when the light went out and the movie started, I noticed my little princess focused on the screen and lost in the story.

Now, I had to admit that I did fall asleep a bit.. It’s not the movie but it was a really LONG week at work for me. But I think we should just see what my kids were saying about the movie, right? After all, I think I fell asleep in Sleeping Beauty and Mulan too.

After the movie, Miss J told me that this is her favorite Princess! Even Mr. Z was very fond of the movie.

The movie has all the Disney ingredients – Tragedy, Trial and Triumph. It has a great story and a lot of teaching moments. Best of all, I’m sure you guys have heard that Princess Tiana is the first African American Disney princess, right? It’s about time for Disney to show Princess with more diverse to reflect our growing melting pot in the country.

But for my kids, I don’t think they care if she is African American, Asian or Caucasian.. Kids don’t see that. Kids see her character as a good, hard working woman who has a big dream and does not afraid to work hard and follow her dream.

I also loved the little detail about New Orleans in the movie. The city has a special place in my heart and I think it deserves a special spotlight.

Even if I don’t get the free tickets to watch the show, I already plan to take my kids to watch them. So just the fact that we got to share the  movie with other little girls just made it even more so special!!

Disclaimer: I received complimentary tickets from PR contact who works with Walmart. However, this post is based solely on my experience and my opinion without any outside influence.

World of Coca-Cola with Kids

World of Coca-Cola

The  World of Coca-Cola has been opened for a couple years now and we just recently went there to check it out. I have to say that I wasn’t expected much from this trip. I didn’t think the kids will enjoy it as much as I will. But I was surprised by how much fun they had during this visit. Here is the highlight from our trip.

When we first walked in, we waited at the Lobby and were greeted by these giant coke bottles with amazing details from different places around the world. After a short wait, we entered the Coca-Cola loft. The loft was a holding place before we headed to the Happiness Factory Theater. We played trivia games so it didn’t seem like a long time while we waited for the short film. I think the short film was really cute and shown us the glimpse of what goes inside each bottle.

Mar20_World of Coke-54

After the short film, we walked through the door (which was so cool because it was behind the screen) to the Hub where we waited in line to meet the Polar bear. But if your kids are not into big Polar Bear then you can just skip and head to other areas. The next stop was the Milestone of Refreshment. I wish I could give more insight experience but Mr. Z just zoomed through the whole thing with just a little stop at the air pressure machine. But the Bottle at Works stopped us on the track. Mr. Z and Miss J were so amazed by the machine. It was so cool to see the machine in the work.

After spending a really long time at the bottle works, we went to the 4-D theater. A warning for parents with young kids, this show had a lot of movement that could scare little kids. There were a few kids crying during our show. Mr. Z was doing pretty well. So I would say if your kids are 5 or younger you might want to consider their roller coaster tolerance. Ok. Back to the movie. It was a really cool and fun movie. The 4-D effects were fun and engaging. It was one of our favorites.

So what’s our next favorite thing here.. Of course, the Taste it! room. I loved that the station is grouped into regions. I couldn’t tell you which one was my favorite because there were too many. But of all the drinks, both Mr. Z and Miss J gravitated toward the classic coke. After oh.. several rounds of drink that were too many to count, it was time to check out the store. But we didn’t forget to pick up our souvenir. Overall, it was a fun family outing. But I would think kids younger than 4 or 5 might not appreciate it as much as older kids.

Family Favorites:

  • Pemberton Place – It’s a great space and perfect for kids to let loose after all those sugar from Taste it!
  • Bottle at Works! – This is a great stop for us. Kids were amazed to see the machine at work putting all the coke bottles in the crate.
  • 4-D Theater - What a fun show. We have been to Disney countless time and I could say that this 4-D show is as good as the ones in Disney World. The story was fun and the 4-D parts were exciting.
  • Taste it! - Well, it’s one of the main reason we want to visit the World of Coca-Cola. It likes a cultural journey with coke products. Different regions of the world sure have different taste in their beverage. I noticed that Asian tends to love more sweet and fruity taste while in Europe the taste was more on the bitter and strong side. Very interesting!

Coca Cola Film Festival at the Fox Theatre

CokeFile

I guess by now most of my friends already know that I’m in love with the Fox theatre. Not so long ago, my friend went to see Twilight at the Fox Theatre.. oh.. how jealous I was. Not only, I’m so in love with Twilight but to be able to enjoy it at the Fabulous Fox!

This Summer the Fox Theatre and Coca-Cola presents the Coca-Cola Film Festival at the Fox to give you and me the chance to enjoy great movies at the fabulous theatre. Mind you, this theatre is very old so you can’t expect the same surround sound from the new theatre. But I’m sure what lack in acoustic system will be compensated in charm and magical feeling as soon as you step foot to the theatre. That’s why the movies that they line up for this Summer are great movies that you don’t have to have great special effect or sound system to enjoy (maybe except Star Trek)

The first show will be on July 9th at 9:30 pm. So mark your calendar. The best part is the movie ticket is $8 per ticket. It’s cheaper than most theaters in town. And parents don’t worry they do have a good mix of movies in the line up. The kid-friendly movie ‘Up’ will be on July 11th at 1:00 pm. Perfect for an afternoon out with kids!

Place: The Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30308
Time: Check for movie time and schedule here
Cost: $8 per ticket
